FAQ

What are the Sea Cadets?

The United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a military-based youth program with official support from the US Department of the Navy. The program is designed to give the American youth a place to learn about life in the sea services. Cadets are taught everything from naval history, to seamanship skills, to leadership.

Who can join?

The Sea Cadets accepts those ages 13-18. 10-14 year-olds are eligible to join to the Navy League Cadet Corps, a branch-off for younger cadets.

Please see the following page for Enrollment Requirements

What are the benefits?

Sea Cadets are leaders in school and the community. They have good academic standing, a strong sense of personal ethics and morals, and give back to the community. They are also kept to a standard of physical fitness. In addition, progress in the Sea Cadets can offer a head-start to those who plan to enlist; they will enter at a higher pay-grade. Lastly, the Advanced Trainings held during summer and winter school breaks offer opportunities that cannot be found elsewhere.

Will I be required to join the U.S. Armed Forces?

No.  Sea Cadets have absolutely no commitment regarding future military service.  However, for those Sea Cadets who decide to enlist in the Navy or Coast Guard, prior Sea Cadet training may permit entry at an advance pay grade.

What if I have a disability?
